Willow
on the run
As my sweet Willow has gotten older she
is not very happy about going to the groomer. She gets very nervous
and it makes me sad how unhappy it seemed to make her. So, I have
started trying to just keep her coat short. Every few days we head
out to the front deck and I use the clippers on her for just a few
minutes(she doesn't like me doing it either).
When Willow was younger she was quite
the escape artist. She has not played that game in a couple of years
so I was not worried about that any longer...bad idea! When I told
Willow we were done she started towards the front dog but on a dead
run changed her direction and headed down the stairs and off up
the dirt road. Oh dear. I of course had no shoes on but because
she can no longer hear I was not about to let her out of my site.
She was a sprinter at 14. She ran about
200 yards up the road and then made a U turn into the vineyard and
started back towards home. As we got near the house she took a lab
around the goat and chicken pens and then started back up the road
again.
I finally was able to run fast enough
to get in front of her at which point she sat down and made it clear
that I should carry her home.
I was quite releaved and amazed and delighted
to see her at 14 have that much spunk in her.
When we got home she wanted a cookie
and then took a long dog nap.
